Md. Moyazzem Hossain, PhD Professor, Department of Statistics and Data Science
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Currently, Md. Moyazzem Hossain, PhD, is working as a full-time faculty of Statistics and Data Science at Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. He graduated with his B.Sc. (Honors) and M.Sc. (Thesis) both from the Department of Statistics, Jahangirnagar University (JU), Dhaka-1342, Bangladesh in 2003 (held in 2005) and 2004 (held in 2006) respectively. It is a pleasure to mention that he was ranked 3rd and 1st position at B.Sc. and M.S. levels respectively in his class. He also earned an MPhil degree from the same Department under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ajit Kumar Majumder. The title of his MPhil thesis was "On the Application of Cobb-Douglas Type Production Function and Related Econometric and Time Series Issues”. Moreover, he started his PhD in October 2019 at the School of Mathematics, Statistics, and Physics, Newcastle University, UK under the supervision of Dr. Jian Qing Shi and Dr. Colin Gillespie. However, in his 2nd year, Dr. Jian left the school and then Dr. Lee Fawcett and Dr. Andrew Golightly took the supervision responsibility. In his 3rd year, Dr. Andrew Golightly also left the school and continued the supervision responsibility. Additionally, Dr. Kevin Wilson joined the supervisory team in his final year of the PhD journey at Newcastle University, UK. The internal and external examiners were Dr. David Walshaw and Dr. Jiang Xuejuen from Newcastle University, UK, and Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzen, China respectively. His thesis title was "Forecasting Crops Production and Environmental Extremes in Bangladesh".
Hossain is an applied statistician with expertise in both developing and applying recent methodologies, models, and techniques. He loves to play with data and is passionate about learning from the insight of data. Hossain started his teaching career as a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Bangladesh University of Business & Technology (BUBT), Mirpur, Dhaka in 2008 and served until joining as a Lecturer at the Department of Statistics, Islamic University, Kushtia. Before joining Jahangirnagar University, Savar, Dhaka as an Assistant Professor in 2014, he served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the Department of Statistics, Islamic University, Kushtia from 2010 to 2014.
Hossain has been awarded "Best Conference Paper by a Current or Recent Student" by the Australia and New Zealand Regional Science Association International 45th Annual Conference, Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, Australia, 1-2 December 2022. In addition to teaching, Hossain enjoys research activities. As a result, he has published several research articles in peer-reviewed journals published by world-renowned publishers such as Science, Nature, Springer Nature, BMC, Elsevier, SAGE, Wiley, PloS ONE, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, and others. He is also engaging in different research activities and the potential research findings will be published soon. Moreover, he served as a volunteer reviewer of different international journals.
Hossain is passionate about collaborative and multidisciplinary research. Thank you very much for taking the time to know about Hossain's work. Please click on the following links for additional information on Hossain's thoughts and research pursuits.
